AppleSox Take Series
/WENATCHEE, Wash. – The Wenatchee AppleSox (28-22, 24-21) found a way to overcome Wednesday’s shutout loss, as they came back to take the series from the Victoria HarbourCats (20-25), with a 9-2 win.
Ian Buckles gave up a run in the top of the first inning and things looked troublesome for the AppleSox, however, they would answer with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first on RBI hits for Ty Jackson and Michael McCann.
The AppleSox would add four more runs in the bottom of the second inning.
With a 6-1 lead, Buckles was now in the driver’s seat. After being the first WCL pitcher to three wins with zero losses, Buckles was trying to win his fourth game of the season, Thursday.
A couple one-two-three innings for Buckles helped him continue to stroll through the sixth inning untouched.
By the end of the sixth, the AppleSox had added three more runs and Trenton Brooks had a 3-3 night with two runs scored and 3 RBIs in three separate at bats.
Sam Brown also hit his fourth triple of 2014, good enough to tie with three other AppleSox for a team single season individual record.
In the seventh, Ian Buckles gave up one last run, on a solo home run for Jake Lesinski. It was Lesinski’s first home run in collegiate-affiliated baseball.
Buckles would recover to retire the next three he faced.
Clark McKitrick took over in the final two innings for the AppleSox. He went one-two-three through the HarbourCats in the eighth inning and only allowed a single to center in the ninth. McKitrick ended the appearance with a strikeout to solidify the fourth win on the season for Buckles.
The AppleSox continue their homestand on Friday with a 7:05 p.m. game against Cowlitz.
