HUNTER WELLS, SHELDON LIIKALA NAMED 2015 ALL STARS
/WENATCHEE, Wash. – The Wenatchee AppleSox had two players named to the WCL North All Star team by WCL President Dennis Koho, Monday
Hunter Wells, who just finished up his sophomore year at Gonzaga, leads the AppleSox in wins with four, and also has the most strikeouts of any AppleSox pitcher with 35. His ERA of 1.17 is best amongst AppleSox starters.
Wells was the one of the first two pitchers to reach 4 wins in WCL play, this season. He started the year throwing a one-hit, eight-inning, shutout at Walla Walla in his first league appearance. Since then he has posted a 4-1 record, which included a Fourth of July victory.
Wells will be joined by outfielder Sheldon Liikala in Bellingham, July 20.
Liikala has owned the longest hitting streak of any AppleSox hitter this season, which stretched to 12 games when including non-league play.
Liikala has a .311 average and 13 RBI, which are both top-three numbers for the AppleSox. He has been a versatile outfielder all season for Wenatchee, seeing time in most all of the team’s games.
The All Star Game is scheduled for July 20 at Joe Martin Field in Bellingham, Wash. Festivities will open with a home run derby, and the game has a scheduled first pitch of 7:05 p.m. The North will be managed by Jeff James of the Bellingham Bells and the South by Brooke Knight of the Corvallis Knights. The North club is made up of Bellingham, Kelowna, Victoria, Walla Walla, Wenatchee and Yakima Valley while the South team is composed of Bend, Corvallis, Cowlitz, Kitsap, Klamath Falls and Medford.
