18 AppleSox Taken In MLB Draft; Most in WCL
/WENATCHEE – The Wenatchee AppleSox had 18 current, former, or future players taken in last weekend’s 2016 MLB Draft, June 9-11. The 18 players selected was the highest mark of any WCL team. As a league, the WCL turned out 83 draft picks; a league record.
The AppleSox draft picks were highlighted by right-handed pitcher Brandon Bailey, who pitched for Wenatchee in 2014. He was the first former or current AppleSox player off the board, and went to Oakland in the sixth round, Saturday.
Other notable selections were Taylor Jones (Rd. 19, Houston Astros), Eric Filia (Rd. 20, Seattle Mariners), and Hunter Wells (Rd. 23, Miami).
In total, 8 current AppleSox players were selected in the draft. Current reliever Casey Legumina led off that charge with a 25th round selection to the Toronto Blue Jays.
