AppleSox Face Sweets in Rubber Match Tonight
/The Wenatchee AppleSox battle the Walla Walla Sweets in the rubber match of their three-game series at 6:35 p.m. at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium. The Sweets defeated the AppleSox 9-2 last night.
Adam Grob hit a two-run homer in the first inning for his second home run in as many at-bats dating back to Tuesday night when he also launched a two-run homer in the seventh inning in his final at-bat of the evening. Grob also hit a double in the eighth inning for his second extra-base hit of the evening and the first two-extra-base-hit game by an AppleSox hitter in 2021.
Walla Walla busted out offensively after being shut out the night before. They scored three runs in the fourth inning, four in the fifth inning and then added two more in the eighth inning on a two-run homer by Seth Ryberg, who drove in three runs last night. Colin Wetereau reached based four times, three times via singles.
The AppleSox have struggled offensively early this season, failing to score more than five runs in a West Coast League game and have to collect double-digit hits in a game. Their pitching staff surrendered nine-or-more runs last night for the second time in the last three games after allowed 11 to score on Sunday against the Pickles.
Gauge Lockhart was originally slated to start tonight’s game for the AppleSox but has been scratched due to his injury. His timeline for a return is to be determined. Head Coach Ian Sanderson’s starter this evening is also to be determined.
Jake Dahle, brother of Tuesday’s starter Nate Dahle, will start for the Sweets tonight. The incoming junior at the College of Southern Idaho recorded a 3.06 ERA in 14 appearances, all starts, and struck out 50 batters over 53 innings.
