AppleSox Go For Series Victory Over HarbourCats
/The Wenatchee AppleSox continue their road trip with Game 2 of their three-game set against the Victoria HarbourCats at 6:35 p.m. on Wednesday night at Royal Athletic Park.
Wenatchee is coming off a dramatic series-opening victory in which they defeated Victoria, 8-6, in 10 innings. Joichiro Oyama tripled in Luc Stuka after Stuka recorded a two-out single to continue the inning and then Enzo Apodaca singled in Oyama. Mason Philley tossed three scoreless innings of relief to earn the win. The lefty did not allow any baserunners and struck out three.
Now the AppleSox look to get their first series victory since sweeping the Springfield Drifters, June 10-12. Wenatchee snapped its six-game losing streak with last night’s victory and also snapped a five-game losing streak at Royal Athletic Park, with all five of those losses coming in 2019. The AppleSox last took a series in Victoria June 1-3, 2018 to open the season.
The AppleSox send Quincy Vassar to the mound to start the second game of the series. Vassar is coming off allowing four runs in six innings against the Bellingham Bells last Wednesday. The left-hander from Vanguard allowed four runs in the second inning but recovered to toss four consecutive innings afterwards.
Victoria will start Levi Abbott, who is making his second start of the summer. The incoming sophomore at Canisius picked up a win 10 days ago against the Kelowna Falcons by only allowing one run in five innings while striking out eight, walking one and allowing one hit.
