AppleSox Drop Series Finale To Elks
/Michael Davinni went 3-for-4 and scored twice but the Wenatchee AppleSox fell to the Bend Elks, 9-5, on Sunday afternoon at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium.
Davinni recorded his seventh multi-hit game and third three-hit effort of the summer but the AppleSox lost a series for the first time in two weeks.
Davinni’s first hit of the game was the second of three consecutive doubles to open the inning. He plated Andrew Haight after his leadoff double and Grant Sherrod drove in Davinni before a sacrifice bunt advanced Sherrod to third and he scored on a sacrifice fly by Matt Halbach to tie the game up, 3-3.
However, the AppleSox did not score again until the bottom of the ninth when Davinni hit a one-out double and scored on an RBI triple by Joichiro Oyama, who then came home after a Halbach single. In between the third and ninth innings the Elks scored six runs to pick up the series victory.
Sunday marked the first time since Thursday that the AppleSox did not score double-digit runs. Wenatchee split the homestand by winning two-of-three games against the Kelowna Falcons before dropping two-of-three against the Bend Elks. The AppleSox end the first half with a 12-15 record and in third place in the North Division at the time of the conclusion of Sunday’s game.
Wenatchee opens the second half of the season on Tuesday when it travels to Kelowna for a three-game road series before then traveling to Nanaimo for three games against the NightOwls.
