Late Home Run Sinks AppleSox Against Bells

The Wenatchee AppleSox dropped the second game of their three-game series against the Bellingham Bells, 3-2, on Wednesday night at Joe Martin Field.

The Bells turned a 2-1 deficit in the bottom of the sixth into a lead on a two-run home run by Daryl Ruiz. They have taken each of the last four games and all but one of five against the AppleSox in the season series.

Frankie Carney recorded two hits for his 16th multi-hit game to extend his hitting streak to 12 games. He singled in a run in the third to tie the game up before adding a single in the sixth. Izzy Lopez also recorded two hits and scored the other run in the fifth on a steal of third and a throwing error.

Samuel Round tossed five innings to mark that length for a fourth consecutive start. He only allowed two runs on two hits, three walks and four strikeouts.

Wenatchee is a half-a-game ahead of Victoria for first place in the second half after the HarbourCats defeated Nanaimo, 9-5, on Wednesday. Kelowna moved two games behind of the AppleSox after the Falcons topped Kamloops, 10-0.

The AppleSox look to salvage the three-game series on Thursday night at 6:35 against the Bells.
