Wenatchee Probable Pitcher: Evan Canfield makes his third appearance and second start of the summer tonight… The right-hander and Bothell native is tied for fourth in the WCL with 14 strikeouts and has only surrendered one earned run in seven innings… Canfield allowed two runs (one earned) in five innings against the Victoria HarbourCats last Friday while striking out nine, walking two and allowing four hits…
Kamloops Probable Pitcher: Josh Berenbaum is in his second season in the WCL and is looking to earn his first win after back-to-back losses to open the summer... The right-hander from the University of Fraser Valley surrendered five runs (two earned) over 4.2 innings June 6 against Bellingham... Berenbaum allowed six hits, walked four and struck out two... He went 2-0 with a 5.40 ERA, 17 strikeouts, eight hits and 10 walks over 15 innings in 11 games out the bullpen last summer for Victoria...
Last Night: The AppleSox earned their first walkoff win of the summer with an 8-7 win in 10 innings at home… Aidan Dougherty doubled in Elijah Pelayo two batters into the bottom of the 10th as Wenatchee claimed its second extra-innings victory…
Hit Machine: Dougherty recorded his second five-hit game of the season and the eighth in AppleSox history with a 5-for-6 night… Each of his final three hits drove in runs with Pelayo scoring each time… Dougherty recorded two doubles and is now tied for the league lead with 17 hits… Last night was his fourth multi-hit game of the summer and he has collected at least one hit in seven-of-10 games… Dougherty led the NWAC with a .371 average this spring...
Runs At Last: The AppleSox broke through offensively last night after scoring a combined three runs over the first two games of the series against the Bells... Wenatchee‘s eight runs last night marked the first time in the last 21 head-to-head matchups with Bellingham that the AppleSox scored more than five runs... They last accomplished the feat against the Bells on June 11, 2021 with a 13-8 win at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium...
The NorthPaws: Return home after being swept by Cowlitz... Lost, 8-0, last night... Are on a four-game losing streak... Are tied for last in the North Division... Will have played nine of their first 12 games of the summer at home by the end of this series...
Oh Canada: Wenatchee is 42-16 against Canadian teams (postseason included) in three seasons under head coach Mitch Darlington… The AppleSox went 23-9 against their northern neighbors last year, went 17-6 in 2022 and are off to a 2-1 start this summer… Wenatchee swept the season series against Kamloops last season and leads the all-time series, 13-1…
Coming For the Record: With four strikeouts against Victoria on Sunday Quincy Vassar moved into sole possession of the second-most strikeouts in AppleSox history with 93 over the last three summers... Evan Canfield has 14 through his first two games to move into eighth place in team history (84)... Both of them are chasing Hunter Boyd, who struck out 110 hitters from 2017-18...
