GAME NOTES

Wenatchee Probable Pitcher: Garrett Ahern makes his second start after firing four shutout innings against the Bellingham Bells at home last Wednesday... He struck out six, did not walk anyone and surrendered three hits... Ahern recorded a 5.64 ERA with 15 strikeouts, 29 hits and 11 walks over 22.1 innings in 11 games (1 start) as a freshman at Grand Canyon this spring…

Yakima Valley Probable Pitcher: Colton LaFave hopes to help the Pippins earn the series victory as he makes his third start and fourth appearance... He is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA, five strikeouts, six hits and nine walks over eight innings... He tossed 1.2 scoreless innings in the fifth and sixth innings Sunday against Walla Walla while striking out one and walking one...

Last Night: The Pippins scored five runs in the first inning and then five more in the second inning to earn a 14-3 victory in the series opener... Reese Schuerman led the way with 5 RBI, plating two on a double in the first and then three in the second on a home run...

Early Inning Attacks: Yakima Valley has scored 17 runs over the first two innings in its last two games... This comes after not scoring in the first two frames of either of the first two games last weekend against Walla Walla... The AppleSox are now being outscored 11-7 in the first inning and 14-8 in the second...

Gianni Goes Deep: Antonio Gianni blasted his West Coast League-leading fourth home run with a one-out solo shot in the second inning... Gianni has hit three-of-his-four home runs away from Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium and the AppleSox as a whole have hit five of their WCL-best seven home runs on the road... Current Colorado Rockies first baseman Michael Toglia is the last AppleSox player to lead the WCL in home runs when he blasted in six in 2016... Last summer Easton Amundson hit seven long balls, one behind Yakima Valley’s Jace Phelan, who appeared in 17 more games... Taylor Sparks (2012) and Adam Nelubowich (2011) are tied for the AppleSox’ single-season record with nine home runs apiece in league regular-season games...

Newcomers Delivering: Cannon Peery, Hunter Friedberg and Jonathan Fitz all made their summer debut on June 11 and have hit their stride at the plate lately... Peery has recorded three consecutive multi-hit games and is batting .533 (8-for-15) over his last three games with 8 RBI and five runs... Friedberg had his first three-hit game and second straight multi-hit game last night to improve to 5-for-his-last-8 at the plate... Fitz also picked up another multi-hit game with his second straight 2-for-4 effort...

Bosco Hit Streak: Luca Boscarino extended his hitting streak to five games with a 2-for-4, 2 RBI effort last night... He is batting .350 (7-for-20) over it with 4 RBI thanks to an RBI double in the fifth and an RBI single in the seventh...

Pitcher Of The Week: Evan Canfield is the latest recipient of the West Coast League’s Pitcher Of The Week honor after tossing eight dominant innings on June 14 at Kamloops... He struck out eight, one off matching his season-high, while also recording the longest outing of his career... Canfield finished at 90 pitches and threw 10-or-fewer pitches in five different innings thanks in part to two different double plays... The Bothell native leads the league with 22 strikeouts and is one-of-seven pitchers in the WCL to appear in at least three games and have an ERA under 1.00... He is scheduled to make his third start on Friday against Walla Walla at home...

Around The Division: Wenatchee remained two games ahead of Edmonton for first place after the RiverHawks fell to the Kelown Falcons, 6-3, to snap their four-game winning streak... Bellingham moved into a tie for second with an 8-2 win against Kamloops... Victoria snapped a three-game losing streak with an 8-3 win at Nanaimo...
