AppleSox Go 4-2 On Road Trip

Kade Benavidez drove in three runs and tossed three scoreless innings as the Wenatchee AppleSox defeated the Victoria HarbourCats, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at Royal Athletic Park.

Benavidez cleared the bases with a 3-RBI double in the sixth to help overcome a 1-0 deficit before being driven by an Antonio Gianni double. The 4-1 lead was enough as Joe Scheffler drove in an insurance run with the third of three straight singles in the ninth.

Benavidez retired the side in order in the seventh and ninth and stranded the tying run at second in the eighth. He struck out four, only allowed two hits and did not walk anyone in his first appearance in league play.

Quincy Vassar only allowed one run in four innings while starting on three days’ rest. He struck out four to move into sole possession of the second-most strikeouts in team history (94) and 17 away from becoming the franchise leader.

Gianni robbed what would have been a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning by leaping up to snare a ball hit deep to left. His catch kept the game scoreless after one frame.

Both HarbourCats runs and 11-of-13 runs in the series scored with two outs. All four AppleSox runs in the sixth inning also came with two down.

Benavidez plated five runs over the weekend against Victoria and now leads the West Coast League with 12 RBI.

Victoria’s home series loss to Wenatchee marked the first time that they lost a three-game series at Royal Athletic Park since July 19-21 vs. Bellingham.

The AppleSox return home on Tuesday to face the Bellingham Bells at 6:35 p.m. It’s the first $2 Off Tuesday with tickets and select concession items $2 off. Tickets can be purchased at AppleSox.com/schedule
