Wenatchee Game 1 Probable Pitcher: Quincy Vassar makes his eighth start and first since firing six shutout innings and striking out six vs. Kamloops last Tuesday… The southpaw is 2-3 with a 3.37 ERA, 27 strikeouts, 11 walks and 37 hits over 37.1 innings… His 114 career strikeouts with Wenatchee are the most in franchise history and he is three innings away from passing Beau Kerns (122.1) to become the AppleSox’ all-time leader in innings…
Wenatchee Game 2 Probable Pitcher: Evan Canfield makes his first start since June 28 and his fifth of the summer... Canfield did not pitch again after his fourth start until last Thursday due to shoulder soreness... He allowed one run in one inning for only the third earned run that he has surrendered over six outings this summer... Canfield is 1-0 with a 1.00 ERA, 31 strikeouts, nine walks and 20 hits over 27 innings this summer... His 100 strikeouts are third-most in AppleSox history and he has not been pulled in the middle of an inning during an AppleSox outing over his last 15 games since June 22, 2023 at Kamloops...
Last Game: The AppleSox lost only their fifth series of the summer with a 4-2 loss to the Edmonton Riverhawks… Wenatchee dropped four-of-six games to the Riverhawks, making Edmonton only the second team (Walla Walla) to win the season series against the AppleSox so far… This past series also marked the first time since the final series of last season (Kelowna) that the AppleSox won the first game and then dropped the next two…
Doubleheaders: Tonight is the third time in the 24-season head-to-head history that the AppleSox and the Falcons will play a doubleheader... They previously played twin bills on June 18, 2000 and July 12, 2003. splitting them both times... Wenatchee has won all three doubleheaders under head coach Mitch Darlington by winning twice at Kamloops and taking both twin-bill sets in 2022 vs. Springfield (June 11) and at Nanaimo (July 10)... Kelowna last played a doubleheader on July 27, 2022, dropping both games to Port Angeles at home...
Lack Of Runs: The AppleSox have scored 19 runs over their last five games after coming three runs away from setting a single-game high for runs scored with a 15-0 win last Tuesday… Wenatchee has scored four runs in its last two games and only had 11 runs in the three-game series at Edmonton… The AppleSox still lead the WCL with 327 runs and a .288 batting average…
Three More Hits For Dougherty: AppleSox rightfielder Aidan Dougherty singled three times Sunday for his fourth three-hit game of the summer... All three have come in July and he is batting .455 in 12 games this month... Dougherty continues to make a strong case for WCL MVP as he leads the WCL in triples (five), tied for the most RBI (40), the third-best batting average (.354), tied for the fourth-most stolen bases (19), tied for the sixth-most runs (35) and the 11th-best on-base percentage (.437)...
The Falcons: Have lost eight straight games… Were swept by Port Angeles this past weekend and Bellingham before that… Last won July 19 vs. Portland… Lost all three games at Wenatchee June 24-26, being swept at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium for the first time since July 7-9, 2017 and overall vs. the AppleSox since July 16-18, 2019… Play their final home game this Saturday… Are 8-15 at home…
First Half Champs: For the first time since the two-half playoff berths began being awarded in 2016 the AppleSox have won the North Division first half title and have locked up home-field advantage as the top seed in the first round of the playoffs… This is the 16th playoff berth in franchise history and the fourth in the last five seasons… Wenatchee had to wait for the result of Edmonton's game on Monday before officially claiming the title… The AppleSox and the Riverhawks both finished with 18-9 records in the first half but Wenatchee (+37) held a better run differential than the Riverhawks (+35)…
Stretch Run: Only 11 games remain in the regular season and the AppleSox are still pushing to lock up home-field advantage for the North Division Championship Game and the West Coast League Championship Game, if they can reach them... Wenatchee’s 29-14 mark is currently tops in the entire North Division and would earn them home-field advantage for the North Division Championship Game if the season ended today and they reached it... The AppleSox have the third-best record in the WCL behind Corvallis (33-10) and Portland (31-12)...
