Five AppleSox Alums Crack 2025 MLB Opening Day Rosters

The 2025 MLB season begins today and five former AppleSox players are on Opening Day rosters. Griffin Canning, Alek Jacob, Ryan Kreidler, Drew Rasmussen and Michael Toglia will all begin the new season with their major-league ballclub.

Canning, a 2020 Gold Glove winner and 2014 AppleSox alum, joins the New York Mets after previously spending five seasons pitching for the Los Angeles Angels.

Jacob, a right-handed pitcher for the 2017 AppleSox, cracks an MLB Opening Day roster for the first time. He has recorded a 2.04 ERA over 10 outings in the previous two seasons for the San Diego Padres.

Kreidler, a 2016 AppleSox alum, also is on an MLB Opening Day roster for the first time. The Detroit Tigers outfielder has appeared in 72 games over the last three seasons.

Rasmussen, a righty with the Sox in 2014, has a 2.95 ERA over five MLB seasons and is coming off posting a 2.83 ERA in 16 games with the Tampa Bay Rays last season.

Toglia, the 2016 WCL MVP, broke through with a 25-homer campaign for the Colorado Rockies in 2024 and slugged a team-high five bombs this spring.
