Rough First Inning Dooms AppleSox vs. NW Star Academy

Grant Sherrod collected two hits, including a two-run home run in the seventh inning, but the AppleSox fell to the Northwest Star Academy, 14-5, in a non-league game on Monday night at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium.

Brandham Ponce also had a multi-hit game with an RBI single in the first and a double in the seventh.

The AppleSox allowed eight runs in the top of the first while committing four errors. They got a run back in the bottom of the first but gave up four in the top of the third and never got within seven runs from there on out.

Cole Miller impressed in his AppleSox debut, reaching base three times and scoring twice.

Will Jacobson tossed 2.1 scoreless innings and struck out three. Anthony Sendejas allowed one run on consecutive doubles in his first inning of relief in the seventh inning but buckled down to toss consecutive scoreless innings afterwards.

The AppleSox return to West Coast League action on Tuesday night when they face the Bellingham Bells at Joe Martin Field on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. Kota Sato toes the rubber for Wenatchee in his second start of the summer after allowing two runs over five innings to earn the win in the home opener on June 6.
