Canfield Earns WCL Pitcher Of The Week

Evan Canfield’s dominant performance last Friday helped him earn the latest West Coast League Pitcher Of The Week honor.

Canfield allowed one unearned run over eight shutdown innings in the AppleSox’ 2-1 win over the Kamloops NorthPaws at Norbrock Stadium. He struck out eight, one off matching his season-high, while also recording the longest outing of his career. Canfield finished at 90 pitches and threw 10-or-fewer pitches in five different innings thanks in part to two different double plays.

The Bothell native leads the league with 22 strikeouts and is one-of-seven pitchers in the WCL to appear in at least three games and have an ERA under 1.00. He struck out five over two scoreless innings of relief vs. Port Angeles in his season debut on June 2 and then punched out nine and only gave up two earned runs in five innings at Victoria June 7.

This is Canfield’s fourth summer in the WCL and third with the AppleSox. He is third all-time in team history with 93 strikeouts and is six back of teammate Quincy Vassar for second place. Canfield needs 19 more strikeouts to break the AppleSox franchise record. He earned All-WCL Honorable Mention last season and is 9-2 with a 1.65 ERA in 27 career WCL appearances.

Canfield and the AppleSox are back home tonight against DubSea Fish Sticks. First pitch for Mascot Night is at 6:35 and tickets can be purchased at applesox.com/schedule
