AppleSox Add Five Players From West Coast D-I Schools
/AppleSox head coach Mitch Darlington announced on Wednesday the addition of five players to the 2025 roster. Gabe Brabec, Philip Cheong, Adam Haight, Kai Halstead and Finn Leach will join this summer's team. This week’s roster additions come from Arizona State, Gonzaga, Oregon State and Stanford.
Brabec is a sophomore with Gonzaga who joined the Zags after helping Linn-Benton Community College earn the 2024 NWAC Championship. The Ashland, Ore. native recorded 1.11 ERA with 99 strikeouts over 72.2 innings in 13 games (nine starts). Brabec posted a lights-out 0.72 WHIP and .123 opponent batting average to earn First Team All-NWAC while finishing third in ERA, third in wins (nine) and fourth in strikeouts.
Cheong is a Stanford commit who will suit up for the AppleSox following his senior year of high school north of the border. The Richmond Hill, Ontario native is a middle infielder/outfielder who is ranked as the fourth-best prospect in Ontario by Prep Baseball Report. He was honored as one of the top rising amateur athletes in Canada by playing in the Canadian Futures Showcase at Rogers Centre in Toronto last fall.
2025 MLB Draft pick Adam Haight joins the AppleSox this summer following his freshman year at Oregon State. He doubles as an outfielder and a right-handed pitcher with the Beavers. Haight was picked in the 20th round by the New York Mets last summer following the conclusion of his senior year at Cedar Park Christian High School.
The Snohomish native was the sixth-best prospect in the Pacific Northwest and the third-best in Washington as ranked by Baseball Northwest. Perfect Game ranked Haight as the second-best player in Washington. He hit .431 with a .566 on-base percentage as a senior to earn 1A Division Player of the Year. Haight’s older brother, Andrew, previously played for the AppleSox in 2022.
Halstead is in his freshman year at Oregon State and comes with plenty of excitement after a standout prep career. He hit .339 with 50 RBI in 72 games over four years of varsity at Puyallup High School. Halstead hit .269 with five doubles and a home run in 24 games as a senior to earn First Team All-South Puget Sound honors while leading Puyallup to the 4A State Championship Game.
The Puyallup native was ranked as the 11th best player in Washington by Baseball Northwest and also played for the Royals in the 2024 Area Code Games. Perfect Game ranked him as the best catcher in state as well as the fourth-best player.
Leach is an incoming freshman at Arizona State who is coming off earning SBLive Washington All-State Baseball First-Team honors and Co-3A Metro Player of the Year in 2024. He is a senior at Nathan Hale High School, where he hit .493 with a .588 on-base percentage as a junior. The Seattle native is the no. 4 overall prospect in Washington by Perfect Game and Prep Baseball Report. Leach is the 50th-ranked shortstop in the country by Perfect Game and the 82nd by Prep Baseball Report.
The AppleSox open up their 25th season May 30 when they face the Yakima Valley Pippins at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium. The 2025 season consists of 30 home games and concludes in mid-August.
